Volcanoes
" Volcanoes are areas of Earth's surface through which magma and volcanic gases pass." There are two types of eruptions explosive and nonexplosive. When an eruption occurs molten rock or magma is forced up to the surface. Magma that is forced to the Earth's surface when a volcano erupts is called lava. A magma chamber is below a volcano and is where most of the magma lies. When the magma rises it goes out through the vents, which are cracks in the surface. It also comes out through the crater, the top of the volcano. No one knows if the volcano is going to be explosive or nonexplosive until it erupts. If a volcano is explosive it depends on the silica, water, and gas content of the magma. There are four types of lava: Aa, Pahoehoe, Pillow, and Blocky lava. Volcanoes are everywhere and have different stages like dormant, active, and extinct. Volcanoes are mostly around the Ring of Fire which is the Pacific Ocean. The other volcanoes not in the Ring of Fire are called hotspots. There are many things today that are unknown about volcanoes that we will eventually figure out. These are just a few of the things about volcanoes.
